FyfeWeb Enhances Connectivity with NTT AS2914

FyfeWeb Enhances Connectivity with NTT AS2914
One of our key points of presence in London Docklands.

At FyfeWeb, we are always working to improve the quality, resilience, and performance of our network. As part of this ongoing effort, we’re pleased to announce that we have recently added NTT Communications (AS2914) — one of the world’s premier Tier 1 Internet providers — as a new IP transit upstream to AS212396.

This new upstream relationship brings us direct access to NTT’s vast global backbone, unlocking new performance capabilities, increased routing efficiency, and deeper global reach — particularly across Asia, North America, and key parts of Europe.

Why NTT?

NTT is among the few true Tier 1 networks, with a globally meshed backbone and extensive connectivity into both mature and emerging markets. Their presence in virtually every major interconnection point worldwide — coupled with a reputation for high reliability — makes them an ideal fit for FyfeWeb’s growing infrastructure and customer demands.

By taking direct IP transit from NTT, we are no longer reliant on intermediary networks to reach destinations on AS2914 or its downstream customers. This reduces latency, improves routing stability, and ensures a more consistent user experience across geographies.

Technical Benefits of NTT as an Upstream

Adding a Tier 1 upstream like NTT brings measurable improvements across multiple fronts:

1. Better Path Quality and Shorter Routes

With NTT in our transit mix, many destinations — especially in Asia-Pacific and North America — are now reachable via fewer AS hops and more optimal routes. This not only reduces round-trip time (RTT) but also minimises jitter and improves overall throughput, especially for latency-sensitive applications such as gaming, video streaming, VoIP, and real-time APIs.

2. Improved Resilience and Path Diversity

NTT joins our diverse mix of upstreams and Internet Exchange peers, providing an additional path out of our network. This improves our ability to route around congestion or outages and adds an extra layer of redundancy to our upstream architecture. In practice, this means our routing engine now has more choices, allowing it to dynamically select the most efficient and reliable route based on real-time conditions.

3. More Predictable Routing

When relying on a single or small set of Tier 2 providers, routing decisions may not always favour the lowest-latency or most direct path. With NTT as a transit provider, we can influence outbound routing more granularly and benefit from the predictability of a global backbone that consistently maintains high-capacity interconnects and engineered path symmetry.

Deployment Overview

Our session with NTT has been established at our London POP over a dedicated 10G IP transit link. The session is fully dual-stacked (IPv4 + IPv6), with full routing tables received from AS2914. FyfeWeb is now announcing all prefixes from AS212396 directly into NTT’s backbone, allowing immediate reachability through their extensive global network.

Looking Forward

The addition of NTT as an upstream transit provider marks a significant milestone in FyfeWeb’s network evolution. It brings us closer to our vision of delivering carrier-grade performance and global reach to every customer, regardless of scale.

In the coming months, we’ll continue to enhance our routing policies, expand our upstream diversity, and explore further interconnects with Tier 1 providers and global exchanges. This is part of a broader commitment to building a high-performance, resilient network that can scale with our customers’ needs.

As always, we’re transparent about our network operations — whether you’re a SaaS provider, gaming platform, enterprise client, or developer hosting personal projects. If you’d like to discuss routing specifics or performance benchmarks, our team is always happy to assist.
