Plesk Hosting: Overhauled.
As one of the few hosting providers who continue to provide the choice of both Plesk & cPanel-based web hosting, we are thrilled to announce that we have recently overhauled our Plesk web hosting estate.
Web Hosting Infrastructure
Previously, we ran CentOS 7 across a cluster of Cisco UCS Blade servers until the recent CentOS EOL. Now, we have aligned Plesk hosting with our current, stringent internal standards and requirements for web hosting infrastructure.
Our Plesk web hosting now runs on powerful Dell PowerEdge server infrastructure with CloudLinux OS. With the familiar Plesk interface that we all know and love, Plesk-based hosting now features the same unparalleled, industry-leading performance, reliability and security that was previously exclusive to our cPanel Hosting Services.
Utilising Tier-1 hardware across the board, FyfeWeb only uses hardware from one of the following vendors: Dell EMC, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Juniper Networks, and Super Micro. Using Tier-1 hardware, we benefit from higher-quality hardware and components, comprehensive hardware support, stability, optimisation for heavy workloads and advanced security & compliance. Backed by our high-quality, diverse and scalable DDoS-protected network spanning 8 UK-based data centres, our Plesk Web Hosting continues to benefit from our high-quality network, comprising a blend of upstream providers.
What is CloudLinux OS?
CloudLinux OS is a specialist operating system which has been specifically designed for website hosting. Specifically tailored to the needs of web hosting providers like ourselves.
CloudLinux comes with a wide range of features, including:
- LVE: LVE is a kernel-level technology developed by CloudLinux . It integrates at the server and database levels, among others, to prevent any kind of abuse while maintaining the lowest overhead possible. The technology has roots in common with container-based virtualisation. The goal of LVE is to ensure that no single website can bring down your server.
- CageFS: Using CageFS, a virtualised file system, limits each account and website to its own 'caged' area. This further enforces separation between users, websites and accounts already imposed by CloudLinux
- Hardened Kernel: CloudLinux OS provides a kernel that is specifically designed and hardened to protect against common types of vulnerabilities and exploits. This enhances server security further.
- MySQL Governor: Database tools that come with CloudLinux helps system administrators monitor and manage MySQL usage.
- PHP Selector: PHP Selector is a CloudLinux component that sits on top of CageFS within CloudLinux OS. It allows each user to select PHP version and module based on their needs on a granular basis.
What does the new Plesk Web Platform mean for me?
Thanks to CloudLinux OS and FyfeWeb's investment into enterprise-grade hardware and networking, our web hosting services offer an incomparable level of performance, scalability and security to other hosting services on the market.
We can closely control and monitor resource limits and usage, and you can be guaranteed that any spikes in usage by other users will have no impact on you or your websites at any time.
Furthermore, because each user and account is logically separated from each other, each account has its own secure environment completely inaccessible to other users. This protects sensitive and personal data stored in your DBs or files from accessed and prevents cross-account attacks which non-CloudLinux OS servers remain vulnerable against.
Whitelabel Web Hosting
Plesk web hosting now features our whitelabel "websiteserver.uk" domain name. We find that whitelabel web hosting is more attractive and appetising for customers reselling the service. Similarly to our cPanel-based hosting services, there is no reference to FyfeWeb at all.
We are committed to continuous improvement and development across all of our platforms and services. We continue to invest in secure, reliable and resilient server infrastructure which underpins and is fundamental to the services which we offer.
